Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Passage: "Snape finished calling the names and looked up at the class. His eyes were black like Hagrid's, but they had none of Hagrid's warmth. They were cold and empty and made you think of dark tunnels."
Wow! This passage really gave me a glimpse at Snape. He seems so dark and intimidating! Black eyes certainly hint that he is scary and mean. The "dark tunnels" lead me to believe that he is distant and that it will take me, the reader, a while to figure him out!
"I have not been counting the summers or winters of my age" he said "But I am old."
This passage is interesting to me because the man doesnt know how old he is. He doesnt have calenders or clocks to count time for him, becasue of the small village he lives in. It also is interesting because he has lived for so long he lost count on how many times the seasons have changed. Which means he must not have much time left to live
Shooter
Passage: "And what he was going to do was go to the school and write stop the violence all over the school in his own blood."
This is the first part in the book where you think that Leanord is taking things to far. The other stuff he did prior to this wasn't good either, but when it comes to this you start questioning his sanity.
The most important part of the book is the prelude. The prelude is the most important part because it gives you a "heads up" on the characters. It also helps you understand the scenario and where the story will end up taking place. Without the prelude reading the first chapter would be like opening the book to the middle and start reading, the book would not make a whole lot of sense. it just basically alows you to know what is going on.
"We watched Cynthia come bacak crying from electricshock once a week. We watched Polley shiver after being wrapped in ice-cold sheets. One of the worst things we watched, though, was Lisa coming out of seclusion two days later."
This passage really made me think about what these patients go through in this hospital. It also made me wonder what Susanna went through and what she thought about the other patients and what they went through.
Twilight
I'm started reading twilight because I heard alot of good reviews about it and wanted to see what the fuss was about. My childhood friend Alex baught me the book at the store because it was her favorite book and wanted me to read it really badly. I am in the 6th chapter today. And I'm really into it. i didn't know what the book was really going to be about. But when I found out it talked about Vampires and Werewolfs then I thought it would get corny. But the writer still has my attention. I can't wait till I'm done with this book and start reading the second. I heard it's way more exciting then the first cuz you know the characters better. And more exciting stuff happends.
"Those white men came a long time ago. The white men who talked with rocks in thier mouths. They came and took and took it all. They used our men as beasts and they took our women for their own and left us with no meat. Left us starving. They took all the fur and then they left. That is what I was todl when I was young and in those villages they stil don't like the white men who talk wtih rocks in their mouth." I liked this passage because it showed me the point of view from the native american people and it showed us what they thought of the white people. This passage helped visualize the white men coming to america and taking over the native people to that land. I saw the white men burning villages and taking women from them. This passage is important to my book because my book Dogsong is about the native american Eskimo's of the northern parts. This passage strikes me as interesting because it makes me think what if we were the ones being taken over and how much I would dislike that.
Into Thin Air
Passage: "Fighting exaustion, the two climbers continued up the updualating ridgge above."
This passage paints a picture in my head the it must be really hard and must take lots of energy to climb that high into the our earths atmosphere. Also it paints another picture in my head on how "thin the air" is at 29,002ft.
"She was about to turn away when she felt she was being watched, at herleft shoulder. She pushed the thought aside but it persisted. She could feel the spot, and a scant moment later picked out, fifteen feet away on a low wood porch rail, the form of a big car, starting at her. Then it opened its mouth and cried, a terrible rasping sound that ripped the silence ofthe courtyard and brough her adrenaline rushing. "
I like this passage because while your reading it you dont know whats going to be behind her. I thnk that everyone gets the feeling someone is "watching" them sometimes and its kinda creepy. I thought this was an important passage to the book because since there is a rapist among the neighborhood thats who could have been behind her. Even though it turned out to be just a cat that still makes the story mysterious.
Firestarter
"how is the other fella" "the one who clawed his eyes out" this struck me as a very bold statment and that is what i liked about it. the passage painted an image in my head and that is somthing that stephen king does really well. i visualisize a guy with his eyes clawed out and it was kinda scary. this passage is important to my book because is adds to the horror that the author wants you to get out of his books.
"You want to go with me?" says Jenny. "Huh?" replies Willie. "Go with me. You know, dances, holding hands, stuff like that." Willie doesn't hesitate. "Yeah, i do. I do wanna go with you."
Willie had liked Jenny for a long time but they had only been friends. He could not find a way to ask her without ruining their friendship. But Jenny asked him instead. Since they are "together" now it might make them act different, then before.
Girls in Pants: the Third Summer of the Sisterhood
Passage: "Tibby sat frozen on a chair in the den watching Nicky watch cartoons. Her thoughts came together and broke apart, occasionally puntured by the sadism of Tom and Jerry. Her whole body hurt;every bone ached when her mind flashed on Katherine. She let herself think of Katherine for only a second at a time and she pulled away, because it hurt too much."
I connected with this passage because I remember getting pulled out of class in fourth grade, the day my dad died. He had been in the hospital for a while. I wasn't exactly sure why my mom was there but I had and idea. I felt the same way Tibby felt about her sister falling out of window. Not knowing what's really going on but fearing that what you're thinking is right.
Passage: A CIA document dated November 26,1951, announced "We're now convinced that we can maintain a subject in a controlled state for a much longer period of time than we heretofore had believed possible. Furthermore, we feel that by use of certain chemicals or combination, we can in a very high percentage of cases, produce relevent information."
This passage gave me a glimpse of how the CIA really works they will put spies or POW in an induced state with different chemicals to get information.
Staying Fat for Sarah Bryrnes
Passage: "Im the best at long distances, hte five hundred and 1650 freestyle, so time standards are probably easier for me to hit."
This passage makes me think of myself becuase Eric and I are alot alike. I swim on a team like him and as he said he likes to swim long distance. For me its the exact same. My favorite event is the five hundred freestyle, and thats what i'm good at like Eric. Now I really want to keep reading and find out more about him.
" I peered out the window and saw a women ranting to herself at the subway station half a block away. She was thin, dark and her pregnant belly poked out like a tumor."
I found this very ineresting becasue I have always had a soft spot in my heart for those less fourunate and espcieally wemon and children, this women being pregnant made me pitty her even more, I felt as though if i were the women watching her I would feel obligated to help her out.
"zipped" by Laura and Tom Mcneal.
it is about a boy who has a step mother that is having a secret affair. the step son cant decide what to do.. confront his step mom? or tell his dad?
The Way of The Peaceful Warrior
by Dan Millman
It talks about how everyman in their own way has to become themselves through battles they have to face each day.
Its talks about facing your problems and becoming a warrior in heart.
This kid is like me in a way because he has to learn his path.

the sullivan's the house mick burnt down the parents house of one of micks friend so the parent's adopted mick way before he burnt the house.
the parents were acting alot more caring and kind more then they were before.
The Hot Zone
Passage: “He’s positive for Marburg virus. This is really serious. We don’t know much about Marburg.”
This Passage provides some clarity. It finally reveals what the people who are infected with an unusual virus are suffering from. It is important because it now has placed a label this mysterious virus. The Virus is the Marburg virus.
