Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Passage: "Snape finished calling the names and looked up at the class. His eyes were black like Hagrid's, but they had none of Hagrid's warmth. They were cold and empty and made you think of dark tunnels."

Wow! This passage really gave me a glimpse at Snape. He seems so dark and intimidating! Black eyes certainly hint that he is scary and mean. The "dark tunnels" lead me to believe that he is distant and that it will take me, the reader, a while to figure him out!

"ugly mugly Raffie called cindy"

Raffie has just been a mean person to cindy and when she was told by her friend that she has pretty eyes and she looked pretty she stopped beliving what raffie was saying,... i just thing that you should never belive what someone says about you, you should always be proud of your self

Dreamcatcher by Stephen King

"SSDD was the motto for the group..."

This passage is the foundation that sets the story up for you to understand the relationship between the four men. SSDD stands for Same S*** Different Day. It shows you sort of how they stand on life and how they feel about life in general. Later on (about two pages later) you learn about each character individually and where they are in their lives right now. At the end of each description of the characters lives they end with saying SSDD. It is the foundation for the book.

I like the passage where they talk about Dennis Rodman doing the job that nobody wants, which is why he made a living in the NBA. I connected to this passage because I play basketball with people who do all the dirt work. It helped me visualize in my head what people thought of Dennis Rodman. They thought he was literally crazy. This passage was important to me because I think it will play a big role in the end of the book. It struck me as interesting because not many people like to do that.

Into the wild

"S.O.S I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too to hike out of here. I am all alone, this is no joke. In the name of god please save me."
What shocked me was that this guy was about too die in a van. I would not want my last moments in a van. Also that no one is there with him and no one can go get him some food. That would be the worst. He probly was there for days with no food and no fire to keep him warm.

Breaking Dawn
By Stephanie Meyer

Passage: "The tapestry of family and friends that wove together around me was beautiful, glowing things, full of their bright, complementary colors."

I'm not really sure why I like this passage. I guess its because this sort of describes my life. My family and friends are very important to me, and my life (or tapestry) would not be the same if I did not have my family and friends. I try to surround myself with friendly people who make my life bright. Also, in the next paragraph it says "I was surprised by some of the treads I got to include in my life." I can also relate to this because I have a few unexpected friendships!

"CLOAKED IN DARKNESS, RENZ STOOD IN THE STREET,staring up at the wellers' house, a black mist encircled him, hiding him from sight as he moved across the lawn to the house." I like this passage because Renz thinks that one of the girls is his long lost love but she's not, his real love was brutally murdered and he's been waithing all this time to finally be reunited with her. What destiney doesn't understand is that he could take her for someone else. Then she ralizes that she looks exactly like her and that she doesn't know what she has gotten her self into.

Girl with a Pearl Earring

"When we ate dinner I tried not to compore it with that in the house at Papists' Corner, but already I had become accustomed to meat and good rye bread. Although my mother was a better cook, the bread was dry, the vegetable stew tasteless. The room had no marble tiles, no thick silk curtains, no tooled leather chairs. Everything was simple and clean, without ornamentation. I loved it because I knew it, but I was aware now of its dullness.

After Griet has been working as a maid in the new home, she begins to realize how poor her family was in comparison. I can imagine how she feels. Before, her home seemed perfect. Now after being in a more expensive envirenment, she is noticing all the flaws. She doesn't want to, but she can't help comparing it. I think this is something that anyone can relate to. Like, you think your hair looks really good, but after getting to school and seeing somebody elses hair style, yours doesn't seem so great anymore.

Twilight.

"Usually I can find someone very easily, once I've heard their mind before."

This passage allowed me to finally see how Edward uses his senses to his advantage. After admitting to Bella that he was a vampire this one sentence put the information together so the reader could better understand his mind. Since he has the abilitly to read minds, as well as use that to track people down, he can make sure Bella never gets out of his sight. Loosing her forever would completely break his heart, causing him to forget the importance of life.

the silver kiss
passege: "he lay there, eyes open, staring beyond the room, beyond the school. Before he lept into the dream, he thought of the girl again breifly. "beautiful," he wispered. "pale as the milk of death, thin and sharp like pain." And he drifted out to the stars."
What I like about this passage is how Simon describes zoe. It allowed me to see how Simon saw Zoe. I saw that zoe is a girl with realy pale skin and is in a lot of pain because, when I was reading Zoe's thoughts her mom was in the hospital and was dieing. This passage also made me visualize that Simon is a dark mystirious person. who is a vampire because, the first thing that it said when his story thoughts entered was that "Simon wiped the rats blood from around his mouth."

TONY HAWK BETWEEN BOARDLINES AND BURNOUT

The passage was good i will always like to read this book when ever i can't find a book in the library.

I connected to this passage because most of the things he did i had did it when i was younger.

I visualized most of the things by lookinh at the picture and thinking about it in my head. i also seen me and Tony Hawk doing the samething.

The importance of this book is the life of Tony Hawk. The main character is Tony Hawk.

The reason why is because it is about someones life.

Tales fom The jayhawks' Hardwood
In this book, its discribes how all the players loved there coach Phog Allen and how he loved them. And how Dr. Allen would do anyhing for them. Charlie Hoag played for KU in basketball from 1950-1952. But sharlie injured his knee and Phog Allen was right there for him. Charie says that he had this machine set up just for him and it would send electricity through his leg and made it feel better. i think everyone wishes to have a coach this careing but also know how to whip you into gear and ready to play.

April and the Dragon lady

"Grandma might get upset if she sees a foreign devil gracing her birthday banquet."

I was actually surprised that April's Grandma would care if April brought someone who wasn't Chinese to her banquet because she seems to like April's brother Harry more than April, so I was wondering why her Grandma would care if April continued date her caucasian boyfriend Steve. Even if April married another chinese man she still wouldn't be able to pass on their last name. In a few more pages, I'll figure out if her Grandma approves of it.

A Short History of the Civil War
Passage: In Washington D.C., the outgoing president, James Buchanan, watched all this with a jaundiced eye. Buchanan was a reasonably astute but not terribly strong or active politician. He had done well, he thought, meerly to survive his four years as president.
This tells me that James Buchanan did his very best and the peoplpe liked him. This means that Abraham Lincoln has some big shoes to fill and he is going to have to work hard in order to keep the American nation whole.

NINETEEN MINUTES
Jodi Picoult

"you can feel people staring; it's like heat that rises from the pavement during summer, like a poker in the small of your back. you dont have to hear a whisper, either, to know that its about you.
I used to stand in front of the mirror in the bathroon to see what they were staring at. i wanted to know what made their heads turn, what it was about me that was so incredibly different. at first i couldn't tell. i mean, i was just me.
then one day, when i looked in the mirror, i understood. i looked into my own eyes and i hated myself, maybe as much as all of them did. that was the day i started to believe they might be right"

This passage interested me, it wasn't really a passage in the actualy story it was a thing that they put in the middle between chapters or on the chapter's first page. the passage though really made me kind of sad because i can only imagine how Peter really did find that out about himself. and how he would really actually start to hate himself. i mean what else could you think? if every single day you were bullied and hated, you would have to put the blame on something i would think. i've never been bullied like in this story or like what you hear about but im sure it would be terrible. it makes me mad when people bully like that too because they really dont understand what it does to the victom of their bullying.
